Here we go again . . . this time in Morrisville
I was talking to a colleague of mine about this incident of the firing of the coaches in Morrisville this week. His brother is an associate athletic director at UCLA and former football coach. His brother says there are two kinds of coaches “those who’ve been fired, and those who will be fired.” Coaches realize the “business” they are involved, however, the recent firings or “resignations” in Morrisville are not exactly what should be expected.
Check out these articles here and here in the local papers and here on KSPR and here on Ozarks First.com.
The benefit of these two coaches over a situation like Randy Towe’s is that the school board members are up for re-election on April 15th, so there might be a possibility of rescinding the decision.
Something my father taught me that goes in everything political (school, government . . . and heaven forbid–churches!): “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” When it comes down to it, most of these issues have to deal with power–the haves and the have nots.
Just as in the case of Randy, these coaches weren’t fired because of their positive impact on students or wins & losses. And as was the case with Randy, they probably have and will continue to have offers from great schools, but as is the case of Randy and the boys coach at Marrionville–they didn’t WANT to go somewhere else!! Nixa and Marrionville ARE HOME–they grew up there and live there and are a huge part of the community in their perspective towns. Sad trend in this area indeed.
