Great Interview from a Giant
Just listened (again) to this podcast in the car on the way home last night with Jenny. It is at the Catylist Conference in 2002 of John Maxwell interviewing Bill Bright of Campus Crusade for Christ just a few months before Bright passed away after more than 50 years of ministry to the world.
He said some things that resonated with me in a powerful way:
- His relationship with Jesus Christ is central in everything he does. His advice is to never lose your first love.
- God gave him the vision of Campus Crusade for Christ after confessing to Christ about being a “bad husband.” He said he was too busy. Too busy doing things for God. But signed a contract with Jesus to be a “slave to Christ.” 24 hours later, the vision of Crusade came to him. He wants to be referred to as a “slave to Christ.” He said there is a real freedom in being a slave. He said, “I don’t have a problem” (when things don’t go as expected), “but God has a problem.”
- This REALLY hit home this week considering our financial situation. . . He said they never once had a dollar left over when they paid all of their bills. It was a matter of faith! They were much like the children of Israel who waited daily on the Lord for bread from heaven. Maybe we need to be looking to the heavens for bread?
- “You can’t out give God!”
- Just his level of faith is almost not human! He did such amazing things for God. Things that many would believe weren’t possible! Like getting out a map of the world with 6 staff members to reach the world for Christ. Maxwell says that every time he brings “something big” to tell Bright about, he leaves thinking that it is a tiny, tiny thing because Bright dreams of so much more.
- He was only 30 years old when God gave him the vision of Crusade.
- Faith is like a muscle. It grows as it is exercised!
- He bathed everything in prayer!! I don’t pray near enough! Lord, teach us to pray.
I believe our church is going to experience a huge breakthrough with our current physical reality. Many times our physical “problems” are actually spiritual problems in disguise.
