Pray for the Becks at Purdue BCM

beck familyPlease pray for the Becks today! They are serving Jesus in West Lafayette, IN at the Purdue BCM. Ben is my first cousin on my mother’s side. He and I were best men in each other’s weddings way back in the summer of 1995 (It was a very good year!). They are NAMB missionaries and I came across them on the Winter PrayerGram for students/collegiate ministries. If you think about it today, say a prayer for them and the students at Purdue that need to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ while they are attending college.

Love you guys!!

Here is the PrayerGram (after the jump)

Black Eyed Moose(s)

I know it’s not proper English, but Taylor thinks it is funny to add the extra “s.” Here is a little Saturday night entertainment from our uber-creative boys. They do this a lot–they took a bunch of empty moving boxes and made a puppet stage for their stuffed animals. Tonight’s show is called “Dog Nite Live.” The special musical guest for the evening was the “Black Eyed Moose(s).” Here is a video of their song.

Rags to Riches? The Man with the Golden Voice

Maybe you have seen this man. Up until about a week ago, he was homeless and panhandling in Ohio to make a living. Until he was found by a reporter for the Columbus Dispatch and this video went viral.

I really hope he does well and can handle all of the pressure from everyone clamoring for his services.  I hope that he doesn’t get taken advantage of by “well-meaning” people. Here is a great video from this morning on the Today Show. Interesting perspective of not acknowledging the Lord in years past, but now, he realizes that the Lord has provided him with so much and especially a second chance.

Models of Scripture Memory – Desiring God

I am coming along pretty well with my Memory Moleskine to memorize the entire book of Philippians. The following video gives me encouragement to continue my memorizing!

In a sermon a last January onHolding Fast the Word of Life in 2010,” Pastor John Piper modeled scripture memory by reciting the entire book of Philippians to his congregation. Pretty cool how powerful and poignant the Scripture is to us today, especially when it is presented in one sitting as the 1st Century hearers would have received Paul’s letter.

He did warn in the later part of his message (not in this video) that it is important to have the correct motives when memorizing scripture:

memorization alone doesn’t guarantee spiritual life or growth to any of us. Satan himself could quote the Bible, just like he did when he tempted Jesus. What is needed is both God’s word and his Holy Spirit, who works through that word to bring us spiritual power.

Check out the link below for the full article and some other examples of pastors “preaching” long passages or books to their congregation. Very cool.

Philippians Memory Moleskine

Monday is for . . . Scripture Memory. I have started a new Scripture memory endeavor that I am really excited about! I have been reading Tim Brister’s blog on my reader for quite a while now and decided to take the plunge and memorize the Book of Philippians with him with the “Partnering to Remember Moleskine.” Read more
